Size guide
Width and thickness are set by the job. Length is the only thing left to choose — and the chart below shows every one we run.
10 and 12 ft runs and both island tops are Oversized — sold in threes, mixed only with each other, from our own warehouse. Everything shorter, 8 ft included, is sold by the piece. Countertops, desktops and backsplash are in U.S. stock today. Table tops (15/16″ thick) and narrow shelves are produced to order — talk to the wholesale desk about a container program.
How to measure a run
Measure wall to wall at the back, then again at the front — walls are rarely square, and the larger of the two numbers is the one to order to. Add 1″ for an overhang at each open end.
Order the next length up and cut to fit. Every top is unfinished and pre-sanded, so a circular saw with a fine-tooth blade and a straight edge is all it takes.
Leave room to move
Solid wood expands across its width with humidity. Leave a 1/8″ gap at each wall, and fix the top with elongated screw holes or Z-clips so it can move. A top screwed down hard will cup or split.
Which width?
- 25 in — the standard kitchen counter depth, over a 24 in base cabinet with a 1 in overhang.
- 30 in — deeper runs, peninsulas and desks.
- 36 in — wide bars and workbenches.
- 39 in — island tops, seating on one side.
- 5-1/2 in — backsplash, cut to match the counter.
Thickness
Everything in stock is a full 1-1/2″ slab. Table tops run 15/16″ and backsplash 3/4″.
